The New York State Senate is calling for a five percent (5%) reduction in optional Medicaid services, which includes adult dental services. The cuts call for $208 million in savings. Because the Senate is also proposing to exempt pharmacy services and services for disabled persons from the cuts, adult dental services could be disproportionately affected. THESE CUTS COULD DAMAGE THE ADULT DENTAL MEDICAID PROGRAM IN NEW YORK!
Member action is needed immediately to combat this effort by the Senate. We need to flood both Assembly and Senate leaders with phone calls to stop these cuts. Do not delay:
Call Senate leaders Dean Skelos at 518-455-3171
and Jeffrey Klein at 518-455-3595
Call Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver at 518-455-4911
Tell them to honor New York’s longstanding critical commitment to oral health care for the needy in our state. Cuts to adult dental Medicaid services will cost the state more money in emergency department usage and cause an overall decline in general health for those who can least afford that consequence. Oral health is important and our legislative leaders must not forget that.
