Survey Completed: Impact of Medicaid Managed Care Transition

In July, NYSDA conducted a survey to gather information on the impact of the Medicaid managed care transition on July 1, 2012. The survey focused on the availability of information about the transition, the experiences of dentists contracting with managed care companies, and the effect of the transition on patients’ ability to access dental care.

Over 650 dentists responded to the 15 questions about the transition and provided over 230 detailed comments on individual experiences with managed care companies and their ability to continue providing dental treatment to Medicaid recipients. NYSDA is currently analyzing the results and will publish a report on its findings. A second survey is planned to measure the impacts of this transition on dentist participation, patient access, and dental practices in New York State after it has been in effect for several months.
