NYSDA and Foundation Raised Nearly $450,000 for Disaster Relief

In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy, NYSDA and the New York State Dental Foundation raised $449,012.46 in donations from NYSDA component dental societies, several state dental societies, private corporations, generous dentists, and other friends of dentistry. As of March 1, $432,000 had been distributed to 103 individuals. Taking into account a few payments which tentatively have been approved but are awaiting backup documentation from applicants, NYSDF has approximately $6,000 remaining in the account. Says NYSDF Chair Dr. G. Kirk Gleason: “I am overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness shown to our colleagues in need. The Foundation’s Disaster Relief Program isn’t about giving out money; it’s about trying to restore our colleagues to some level of whole-ness and, just as important, giving them the ability to continue to serve their patients.”
