GAO Issues Reports on CMS Contracting and on CMS Assistance to State Health Benefits Exchange IT

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has issued two reports: 1) a report on contracting by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services [CMS]; and 2) a report on the information technology [IT] assistance provided by CMS to states for their health benefits exchanges under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act [PPACA].  GAO found that CMS had done a good job of increasing use of competitive bidding in their contracting process, but that a large number of GAO recommendations for other improvements remained open.  GAO found in its state health benefits exchange IT assistance report that CMS had helped states, including New York, but that the help was disorganized and not as effective as it could be.  To read the GAO report on CMS contracting, use the first link below.  To read GAO highlights of the report on CMS contracting, use the second link below.  To read the GAO report on CMS assistance to state health benefits exchange IT, use the third link below.  To read GAO highlights of the report on CMS assistance to state health benefits exchange IT, use the last link below.
