NYSDA is committed to aiding colleagues. The association's Council on Chemical Dependency provides a statewide network of dentist-peers available to assist members and their families in addressing substance abuse problems. Assistance is available from dentists who have experienced both the devastation of the illness and the effectiveness of intervention and treatment in their own lives.
This service is both confidential and non-punitive. In addition, NYSDA can help dentists protect their license and privileges to practice in New York State through referrals to the New York State Education Department's Professional Assistance Program.
